TDEE Calculator Tool

Use the TDEE calculator to learn your Total Daily Energy Expenditure, a measure of how many calories you burn per day. This calorie calculator will also display your BMI, BMR, Macros & many other useful statistics!

How TDEE Is Calculated

Your Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) is an estimation of how many calories you burn per day when exercise is taken into account. It is calculated by first figuring out your Basal Metabolic Rate, then multiplying that value by an activity multiplier.

Since your BMR represents how many calories your body burns when at rest, it is necessary to adjust the numbers upwards to account for the calories you burn during the day. This is true even for those with a sedentary lifestyle. Our TDEE calculator uses the best formulas and displays your score in a way that's easy to read and meaningful.

Formulas Used

At its core, TDEECalculator.net uses the Mifflin-St Jeor formula to calculate an estimate of your Basal Metabolic Rate, and then we adjust the numbers to take your activity level into account.

Mifflin-St Jeor Equation

Mifflin = (10.m + 6.25h - 5.0a) + s
m is mass in kg, h is height in cm, a is age in years, s is +5 for males and -151 for females

Katch-McArdle Equation

Optionally, if you fill out the body fat percentage field, the calculator will instead use the Katch-McArdle Formula, which is the most accurate formula of all. If you don't know your body fat %, you can pick up a pair of cheap body fat calipers on Amazon, or find a place (try University health departments) that offers DEXA scans. DEXA scans are the gold-standard in determining your body fat percentage and generally cost between $50 - $100.

Katch = 370 + (21.6 * LBM)
where LBM is lean body mass

Revised Harris-Benedict Equation

The revised Harris-Benedict equation has been in use since 1984, and we calculate this as well for those who want it.

Harris-Benedict = (13.397m + 4.799h - 5.677a) + 88.362 (MEN)
Harris-Benedict = (9.247m + 3.098h - 4.330a) + 447.593 (WOMEN)
m is mass in kg, h is height in cm, a is age in years

Unlocking Your Health Potential with a TDEE Calculator

In the journey towards a healthier lifestyle, understanding your Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) is paramount. TDEE represents the total number of calories your body burns in a day, encompassing your basal metabolic rate (BMR) and physical activity level. To accurately estimate your TDEE, a TDEE Calculator proves to be an invaluable tool.

A TDEE Calculator is a specialized tool designed to help individuals determine their estimated daily calorie needs based on various factors such as height, weight, age, gender, activity level, and health goals. By inputting these variables into the calculator, individuals can obtain personalized insights into their daily energy expenditure requirements.

One of the primary advantages of using a TDEE Calculator is its ability to provide a more precise estimate of an individual's daily calorie needs. Unlike other calorie calculators, a TDEE Calculator takes into account comprehensive factors such as daily physical activity and basal metabolic rate, which represents the number of calories required by the body for basic functions like breathing and digestion.

Using a TDEE Calculator allows individuals to better understand how many calories their body needs each day to maintain, lose, or gain weight in a healthy manner. By inputting personal data such as height, weight, age, and activity level, individuals can obtain a more tailored estimate of their calorie needs.

Furthermore, a TDEE Calculator aids individuals in fine-tuning their dietary patterns according to their body's needs. For instance, if someone aims to lose weight, they can create a calorie deficit by consuming fewer calories than their TDEE. Conversely, if someone aims to gain weight or build muscle, they can create a calorie surplus by consuming more calories than their TDEE.

Using a TDEE Calculator also facilitates monitoring and tracking progress towards health and fitness goals. By estimating their TDEE and comparing it with their calorie intake, individuals can adjust their dietary patterns accordingly and ensure that they are on the right track towards their goals.

However, it's important to remember that a TDEE Calculator provides estimates and guidelines, rather than exact figures. Individual calorie needs may vary based on factors such as genetics, metabolism, and overall health. Therefore, the results provided by the calculator should be used as a guide, and adjustments may be necessary based on individual body responses.

In conclusion, a TDEE Calculator is a valuable tool for individuals looking to understand their daily calorie needs and adjust their dietary patterns according to their health and fitness goals. By leveraging this tool, individuals can make smarter decisions about their diet and nutrition, ultimately achieving their health and fitness goals more effectively.
